Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - New Treatment For K9 Mast Cell Tumors

Cancer is taking so many of our dogs today. I lost my Irish Setter, Boots, to bone cancer July 9, 1997 and my golden retriever KayCee, to gastrointestinal stromal tumor May 25, 2008. I lost her littermate brother to AIHA Oct. 16, 2003.,and 4 weeks ago tomorrow my golden retriever mix, Honey had surgery for mast cell tumor on her left knee.

I know many of you have had or will have a dog with mast cell tumors, and I wanted to let you know that progress is being made in that field. Now if only the same can be done for AIHA.

I was thrilled to hear about the new treatment medication for cancer in dogs. The new medicine, Palladia, works in about 60% of canine cancer cases. Studies show that the medication will slow or stop the growth of mast cell tumors.

This gives us all hope that there WILL be a cure found for AIHA/IMHA in the future!
