I'm sorry to hear about your pet and this terrible disease. It is always a shock when you are given this diagnosis. Don't panic!! First off, find a good vet that has thorough knowledge of AIHA. The medications that are prescribed can take days sometimes even weeks to begin working. In the meantime, blood transfusions may be necessary to buy time. Read all you can about this disease. Of course this site is full of info and have a look at Meisha's hope.

yes, absolutely read all you can here at this forum and elsewhere...and give those medications a lil time to help your pup.
the best advice i can give is find a specialist that has a very knowledgeable grasp on this disease.
it is treatable and with some luck you can make it through

I am so sorry your little guy has been diagnosed with this disease. I had never heard of it until my golden retriever, age 4, was diagnosed with it. He died in ICU 8 days after diagnosis, However, he had addition problem. He also had liver damage, both brougt on by ProHeart6, the 6 month injectable heartworm preventative. He was fighting a losing battle from the start.

However, dogs do recover, go into remission and live long lives. Never give up hope. It takea a while for te drugs to kick in. Hang in there.
