Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - new dog

Hello all. I have spent the evening reading thru many posts and can not even begin to say how much I have cried with some of you over the losses and rejoiced with others over their triumphs. My story is very similar and very new. My 6 yo cocker was rushed to the er sunday night with a pcv of I think 8. I refused transfusion at that time and ended up taking her home and to my vet in the am for a 2nd opinion, got the same story and had a transfusion on Monday. Her pcv went up to 19 and was at 19 again this morning when they tested her. She is on iv fluids and prednisone drip. I visited her today and she wagged her tail and licked me and acted much more like my beloved friend. The vet says I MAY be able to take her home friday. I am trying to inform myself and am wondering what the main differnces are between the prednisone and the cycol?? whatever the other is? Is one preferred over the other? Also, I am in Texas and have 3 dogs and 2 acres for them to run...although the cocker Molly is really not out very much, but the other 2 big dogs do come in on a daily basis. My question is what can I use that will effectively control fleas? If program safe for these dogs that have the disease? It is kinda a double edged sword for me because if I do not treat her for fleas( we get very bad here) then she gets allergies, skin reactions etc with them......I can treat the other two and limit her time outdoors since she is really my indoor baby. I am praying she will make a recovery. I am devastated by the prospect that my sweet, baby will not be here to greet me, to sit in my lap, and to cuddle in my bed every night. Thanks for taking the time to read. Luck and hugs to all.

Amy,
I am sorry your girl has been diagnosed. What is her name? I don't know if you have found your way to Joanne's site yet but it will answer a lot of questions that you may have.

I can't help you with the flea problem (fortunately we live at an elevation that they don't seem to like) but
a lot of people will probably check in with suggestions. Keep us posted on how you and your girl are doing.
