| Nancy somehow survived the long weekend. On Sunday, I thought for sure she was going to die and I put in a call to the vet to have her PTS. Before our appointment though, she rallied AGAIN! She got up, was hungry and was interested in life! After her rally, the vet said to discontinue the dosage of Cyclosporine which was increased from 35mg to 70mg just 3 days ago and IF she was better to only give her pepcid/pred (after eating) and the imuran at bedtime. So on Monday, Nancy ate like a trooper, was doing well and was interested in being outside with the family and barked at the squirrels. She seemed like a new dog! At bedtime, she ate some more and we gave the imuran. Today, Tuesday, she again is refusing to eat, but we had an appointment anyway. Her PCV is down from 19 one week ago to 13.5 today. We agreed to do another transfusion first thing in the morning and to only give her the pred today (after she eats something), and then will give her 25mg cyclo late in the day... I asked for some nausea drug and was give cerenia. Now that I looked up cerenia, I am afraid to give it, so will have to call the vet back to discuss the dangers of cerenia. Any one have cerenia experience?? Is it safe?? Hopefully, the transfusion tomorrow will be uneventful and the medication dosages will be re-evaluated. This has been a real roller-coaster ride.. | AnnaMarie, The roller coaster ride can be torturous but remember that some of the meds take a while to be effective and/or some reworking of dosages/meds to find the magic combo. I used Cerenia with Barkley with no indication of problems and it was only for a limited time. Wish I could send you the life that Barkley left behind to give to Nancy to get her through. But remember...each day, each moment is a wonderful gift in any life and the one thing in life we can never recreate or get back. Cherish them, no matter how many there may be. Cheering you both on, Cheryl (and always Barkley) |
