Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - My Rosie Was Diagnoised with Leukiemia At Xmas

Rosie our mixed breed girl is 12 years old.She was a rescue puppy and has shown us nothing but love and loyalty.
Just before Christmas we noticed how loose her stools were and she just wasn't eating the same, so off to the vets we went.I was uprepared for what they said it could be,she had, had her teeth cleaned and at least 4 extractions in November but they had not noticed anything , anyway the tests were done, and you guessed it she has leukiemia.
Last Sunday she was in the garden but would not come when called, she could not stand, i brought her into the house and settled her in her bed , after 4 hours she came round, this as happened twice now. Today she has been out side in the sunshine and played with her ball, being chased by her playmate my other male dog who is 9.
She sleeps by the side of my bed with a blanket over her to keep her warm as she is loseing weight fast.
The vet's have said not to leave it to the end, but she does not seem to be in pain but is more hungary now, but how can i put her to sleep when she seems to have more good days than bad when all she does is sleep.
i can't ,we love her so much, it's breaking our hearts.
Just needed to get this off my chest.
Thank You For Reading This

Dear Kathy,
I am so sorry you got this devastating diagnosis for your girl Rosie. I know you will enjoy every minute that you have with her, make every day count. Try and keep a routine and remember Rosie does not know how sick she is. She lives in the moment and is happy to have you by her side.
I talked to a very good vet about euthanasia. How do we know when it is time? Of course as you know, pain is a big one. None of us want to have our dogs suffer. The next thing is, is the dog still eating and eliminating outside. What it basically comes down to, does the dog still have it's dignity.
Just like for humans, we hope they can go in their sleep. Unfortunately that happens very rarely. I am sad to say I am not a newcomer when it comes to dog euthanasia. It is always hard and different every time. But it can be a peaceful goodbye for you and your dog. In the end all you will be left with, are the memories that will heal your broken heart.
I always loved this poem by an unknown author:

He is your friend, your partner, your defender.
You are his life, his love, his leader.
He will be yours, faithful and true to the last beat of his heart.
You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion!

Be strong for Rosie,
Thinking of you and best wishes,

Brigitte

Kathy,

I am so sorry to hear what you're going through along with Rosie. I know how difficult this can be. Manu years ago I had a cocker spaniel who had melanoma and I went through this same thing. Enjoy each day, hour, minute you have with Rosie -- that's what great memories are made of. I was told that I would know when it was time. I questioned that advice, hoping it would never be time. But when it was, I knew. And it was a very peaceful, yet sad, event.

My thought and prayers are with you to bring you peace and strength.

Best,

Sharon

Kathy,
I am so sorry to read about your Rosie. What a wonderful life you have given her. I am sharing a link that someone else has posted here previously that might help you decide when the time has come.

Thank you all for your warmest love and wishes, Rosie is still in the garden in the sunshine, she even dropped her ball for me while i was putting the washing out.
She was insured but i dropped the insurance at christmas, because i didn't want her any more distressed than she was by going up to the vet's.
My hubby said if she needs to see a vet again were ok.
I don't seem to sleep at night much because i keep wrapping her up , because although it is hot here it can drop a few degrees about 3' oclock in the early hours.
Bendix my other pet is a male rescue and he keeps smelling at her. Iknow he loves her in his own way.
In my prayers at night i ask God to let her go peacefully in her sleep i think , no i know that she as earned that right.
My beautifull Rosie.
