I wanted to share my wonderful news! I adopted Scooter, an australian shepherd/border collie mix and she is such a joy! She does not replace Sunny, but she is medicine to my soul. My house is no longer empty. Here's a stupid question.... is IMHA contagious? I don't think it is, but I've heard of several people on this site that have mentioned having two dogs with the disease. Should I throw out Sunny's toys and bed? Thanks for all your help! Leslie

Leslie, No it is not contagious so keep the toys. A lot of people stay with the same breed of dog sometimes even with the same parents. With the research having been done it points to certain breeds for whatever reason are more predisposed to developing AIHA. We just need to keep donating to Meisha's Hope so we can find out the answers we all would love to know. Remember there are no stupid questions and like all of us you have probably developed a high degree of paranoia having walked this road. We had an Aussie that lived to be 18, they are really clever and a joy to be owned by. Best to you and Scooter. Penny

THIS IS GREAT NEWS. YOU ARE 100% CORRECT IN SAYING NO DOG EVER "REPLACES" ONE. IT CAN NOT BE DONE. BUT BRINGING HOME A NEW DOG HELPS BRING JOY BACK INTO OUR LIVES, SMILES TO OUR FACES, AND THE COMFORT OF HAVING A DOG AT OUR SIDE. AS SAID, THERE ARE NO STUPID QUESTIONS WHEN IT COMES TO THIS DISEASE. I THINK MOST, IF NOT ALL OF US HAD NEVER HEARD OF IT TIL WE HAD A DOG DIAGNOSED. MY 4 YEAR OLD GOLDEN RETRIEVER, HUNTER WAS DIAGNOSED ON OCT 9, 2003 AND DIED OCT 16, 2003. HOWEVER, THE PROHEART THAT BROUGHT ON THE AIHA ALSO BROUGHT ON LIVER DAMAGE, SO HE GOT A DOUBLE WHAMMY AND DID NOT STAND MUCH OF A CHANCE. BUT BLESS HIM, HE FOUGHT HARD.
