I wanted to keep you all posted regarding my beloved 9 year old cocker spaniel, Maggie. She had a blood transfusion on Monday (her rbc was 10). It came up to 20rbc and held for a few days, but today was down to 16. We asked (and the vet concurred) to try a 2nd transfusion (along w/continuing the prednisone, and other meds) to boost her immune system. We feel this is our last chance...I'm not sure what to expect, but I'm trying not to give up hope. She was with us yesterday, we sat out on a blanket on the lawn enjoying the beautiful evening (there was a delightful breeze) and she just took it all in. Please pray for her and me. I am already feeling distraught and really need prayers. Thank you and God Bless. I'll report back in a few days with any updates.

Patti, I know how intensely stressful the "wait and see" game can be and I really feel for you and your family. I really hope for a turnaround for Maggie. Please do keep us posted. deb and Duck

Patti, I will keep you and your sweet Maggie in my thoughts and prayers. Sometimes it takes a little while for the drugs to kick in and the transfusions are used to buy them that time. I am glad you got to sit out in the breeze and enjoy the evening. Penny

It took four transfusions and several months to stabilize my boy...don't give up.

Jaija...I'm not sure that the vet will agree to do any more transfusions. He said that he believed this would be her last hope if there was not a successful outcome. She is rather ill for awhile, after the transfusions, and the med's are very hard on her. She seems to have a lot of nausea and fatigue (although we give her med's to combat it). Her eyes seem a quite dull and I wonder if we need to put her through any more trauma. I will know more on Monday when she has her next red blood cell count done. Please keep Maggie and me in your prayers. Thank you and God Bless.
