Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - More News on Bentley

Well, we are 11 weeks into our battle with IMHA, and saw our specialist today....here's the latest on Bentley:

He is officially IN REMISSION!!!! YAAAYYY!!!

His HCT as of yesterday was 36!! It has been over 30 for three weeks now, and is still climbing. His white count, while still above normal, is not showing great inflammation. There are no spherocytes in his RBC morphology for any longer, and he has been regenerating nicely! We hope to talk about med reduction in the next couple of weeks!

We do still have issues with his kidney....he is still losing some protein in his urine. We will be repeating a urinalysis in ten days to check the protein level, specific gravity, and protein/creatinine ratio. He is on a med to help with the protein loss, and will likely soon change to a kidney diet.

He also now has a yeast problem between the pads of his feet and in his ears, due to the immune-suppressed system. We are treating those topically, and hopefully they will clear up soon.

Keeping fingers and paws crossed that he continues to get better....thanks to all here for all their info and support through this journey!!

Fantastic news and great pcv...go Bentley boy!!

Great to see another turnaround on the forum, gives great hope to those at the start of this journey.I remember when Nollaig was first diagnosed I scoured this site searching out dogs who had overcome prca and looking into every little detail of what had helped their turnaround...medical research at my fingertips..wonderful!

Hope the kidney function improves with next test.

Our pet Morgan has just been hospitalized tonight for AIHA. We are very scared and it has been encouraging reading the success stories and hope Morgan is one as well

@Kathleen, thank you for the warm wishes! This forum has been wonderful for us....so much info and support, it is unbelievable. The folks here have kept me going through a very frightful time, when I didn't know if Bentley would survive the first couple of days.

@Stephanie, I am so sorry to hear that your Morgan has taken ill with this disease. But please know there IS HOPE, and there are lots of dogs that survive and live happy lives. I hope you continue to post, and let us know how Morgan is doing....we are happy to help in any way we can.

great news about bently!!! sorry to hear about the kidneys and yeast/pad issues. we had about two fabulous days of remission celebration with charlie then the reality of how far he still has to go to be 'healthy' -- his leg swelled up again so he is back on antibiotics -- baby steps!! pls keep us posted on bently's continued progress towards full health.

Celebrating with you and Bentley!

Praying for everyone in remission to stay there and for the others to reach it.

Tori's latest has been posted about our vet visit and the new treatment plan. Maybe she will go into remission quickly and we will be doing the "Happy Dance", too.

Blessings,
