| Hi all, just wanted to give a quick update on our Mr Moose (a mostly Ridgeback pound rescue mutt), just over 2 years on from his AIHA diagnosis. He is still fit, healthy and steroid free, just slowing down a little bit now with his advancing years and hip dysplasia. We still reckon that the high steroid doses from his treatment actually helped his hips! Moose enjoys sleeping by the heater most of the time, and is very tolerant of our nearly 2 year old who frequently teases Moose by presenting him with his leash and pretending to take him for a walk! For a dog that was terrified of kids before she hit the scene, they have a very special and close relationship, which is lovely. I don't think Moose would have done so well if it wasn't for the advice I received on this board. I reduced his steroids at a far gentler rate than the vet prescribed, thanks to what I read here. I really think that this was the key to Moose's full recovery- our vet said they were lucky to see one case of AIHA a year, and they certainly weren't up with the play on the latest approach to treatment. So thanks to everyone here- you are such a great supportive community, and if I hadn't found you, I don't think I would have had the pleasure of the last 2 years of Moose's love and friendship. xxx Leonie |
