Hi there, Moose had a blood test last week, and the results have come back as being entirely within a normal range for a healthy dog. He has been eating well (too well actually!) and is wanting to walk every day. He's been keen to play games(something he didn't want to do a month ago). The vet is confident that he will be able to be weaned off the prednisone completely, so we are about to drop his dose again. He's currently on 20mg per day (we stepped him down from 30mg about 2 weeks ago), so we plan to drop him to 20mg one day, 10mg the next. The vet suggested 20mg every other day, but we are a bit cautious about reducing by 50% after the advice we got from this board. The gradual reduction has been working well so far, and Moose seems to tolerate the steroids ok. Thanks everyone for your help and support. Will keep you updated, and keep following how all your beautiful dogs are doing. Leonie

Leonie, As long as Moose is tolerating the meds well I think you are wise to err on the side of caution. That is really great that he is so active and that his numbers have moved entirely within normal. Way to go Moose! Penny

Like Penny said...if Moose is tolerating the meds well I would er on the side of caution and reduce the meds a little more gradually. The one thing we DO NOT want is any complications due to a large med reduction. I'ld consider dropping the pred to 15mg then watch and test in a week to see how he's doing. Just my thought. All dogs are different. I'm sure you will do what's best for Moose. Keep us posted. Moose will be in my thoughts and prayers. Good Luck. Johnny & Tessy

Great news for Moose! Slow and steady for the med reduction, do not risk relapse. SUE
