Monster is doing pretty well. She's jumping on the bed, playing with her brother and causing heck throughout the house. We went in for monthly CBC on Friday and she's finally maintaining steady numbers! Our PCV is stable at 46%, however we're still dealing with the leg infection. Her paw has completely healed over, amazingly enough without the skin graph! But, it still has to be wrapped otherwise it swells. The vet changed the antibiotics that she was on (since July) and I'm hoping that will make a difference, but only time will tell. The vet seemed bewildered as to why the leg continues to swell. Does anybody else have this problem? Any suggestions? Good luck to all of you and your furbabies! Tummy rubs to all! Jenelle & Monster

Jenelle, That is so good to hear about Monster's numbers! How wonderful to have him playing again! Where is the swelling exactly? If it were me, I would have an x-ray taken to see if there is something going on inside the leg that isn't apparent on the outside. Probably can do this without any anesthesia and shouldn't take more than a few minutes. Patrice

Great numbers Monster!!! Way to go. You must be really happy Jenelle. Sorry, I don't have any experience with swelling although Duck did develop a seroma (fluid filled pocket) on his hip bone that resolved itself. Seromas often form in response to trauma in that area. I'm sure this isn't the same thing for Monster though. Just a thought. deb and Duck

Great news for Monster, Jenelle :+) Sorry I'm not sure about the swelling/infection, have you had his leg x-rayed? Tricia

Hi Jenelle, I was wondering how Monster was doing. As you know, we had to have Georgie put to sleep because leg infections had affected her two front leg bones and she wasn't healing. I think a mistake was made early on as we noticed a pocket of fluid on the joint but were told it was just one of those things. That said the vets did a fantastic job and I would trust them all over again should the need arise. I am so glad Monster is still fighting on. As Patrice suggested, I would have an xray just to ensure all is well inside the leg. I contacted a lady, whose dog Jessie who was December 04's success story. Her dog had a leg infection and it took a long time for it to heal but heal it did and Jessie is still very active. Joanne put me in touch with her and she emailed me a few times with support. Once again I am really pleased that Monster is doing well, Steph

Yes, pleaseeee have an xray. There is a specific reason. It shouldn't cost more than $50-60 at your local vet and he should be able to do this awake if he is pretty good about being handled. Patrice
