| I haven't posted in some time. Monster was/is doing pretty well now. She tried to look over the six foot fence the other day, which would have been possile a year ago, but instead it was a chest flop against the fence. She has been playing with her 125 younger brother, trying to jump on the bed, been in her spot ont the couch -- all of which demonstrate her normal behaviors. However when I got the results of her CBC today, her PCV has dropped from 46% to 40%. On the other hand, that massive leg infection is all but healed up FINALLY and we may get to remove the bandaging for the first time since mid-July. If anyone had problems with infection and tissue not healing I have had great luck with EMT Gel. It really does wonders. Because of her behavios, I don't know how concerned to be with the drop. It had been a month since her last CBC. We haven't had a drop in the PCV since the initial transfusion -- losts to "stalls" but no drops. I haven't got to talk to the specialist yet, as he was closed when the local vet called me at 8:25 on a Friday night. So I have to wait till Monday. Good luck to all puppy childern and their people! | Hi Jenelle, Was the pcv checked the same way as last time? FOr example, were they both in-house or sent out...did they go to the same lab if they were sent out? All these factors can make a difference, as well as the time of day. Perhaps you should take Monster back in a few weeks just for peace of mind. Those drops can be so nerving but I usually when that happened with Jacob I would take him back and the number came back up or was somewhere in between. The only advise I can give you is just keep doing what you are a keep a good eye on her. It sounds like she is doing great but it cant hurt to take her back in a couple of weeks jsut for a quick recheck. It will make you feel much better. Been there, done that! Keep us posted and thank you for the update. Teresa and Jacob |

I agree with Teresa, keep and eye on her and maybe take her back in a few weeks for your own piece of mind. I have read somewhere on this board that different circumstances can effect the test. I think Deb and Duck had a drop this week and went for a retest a few days later and her pcv had improved. She seems to be more like her old self though, which has to be a good sign. Good luck,

Blood draws....also I will add the Cranky blood draws fluxuaite. We have been as high as 55 and as low as 47. All of Crankys are done in house. However, I think alot depends on the person drawing. His lowest draw was with someone he did not like from what his regular vet told me he tried to snap at whoever drew his blood. Now mind you he is 5 pds loves children and has never groweled at anything but his toys when he is putting them in their place. 73 days since he was diagnosed his last blood draw was 50 which was 7 days ago. Love your babys and think positive. If one thing has happened to us since this disease I always try and think positive thoughts with every aspect of my life now. Teresa and Cranky

Hi Jenelle. I had a PCV drop with Duck this week so I know how scary it can be. On Tuesday he was down to 32.8 from 39.3 and then on Thursday recheck, he was back up to 39.8. My vet doesn't think Tuesday's reading was an error because his blood smears were different in appearance on both days. The specialist, on the other hand, is very skeptical that two days worth of an increased prednisone dosage could have made that difference. So, we'll never know. It was the first big drop for us as well and when it happens for the first time, it scary because there is nothing to compare it to. I was afraid that this was the beginning of a full scale relapse and that his numbers were going to fall fast. For your own peace of mind, why not get Monster's CBC done sooner than you might otherwise? Also, Teresa makes a good point. There could be a difference in the numbers if the lab that was testing was different or even if a different machine was used to spin the blood - does your vet have more than one machine? Give Monster a big hug for us!!! deb and Duck

Hi Jenelle, Holly's PCV has salso jumped around quite a bit. As high as 55 and as low as 36 back up to 44 down to 39. I think it really does vary depending on how hydrated they are and time of day and the blood draw. Glad to hear her leg infection is finally cleared up and back to somewhat normal behavior. Holly still has some very lazy days and then like Thursday night she just started running around and playing like we have never seen her play and has continued into today. It is so wonderful to see Keep up the good work Monster! Linda
