Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Melissa/Tiggs

Melissa,

You are always such an encouragement to me. Thank you for your kind words. How is Tiggs doing? I know there were skin problems and a concern regarding thyroid medication. Pray you are both doing well.

Thanks Karen, I'm just so inspired by both yours and Darcy's spirit and dedication! You are an amazing doggy mom and angel to sweet Darcy.

Tiggs is doing wonderfully, thanks for asking. His thyroid seems to be under control, but his skin is still kind of yucky, which is also compounded by seasonal environmental allergies, but these are just little things.

We went hiking last week for the first time since he got sick...I had tears in my eyes, he looked so happy. Of course, I was worried the whole time, but he had such a good time. He had his huge trademark smile the whole time.

Every now and then he doesn't eat, which always panics me, but I think it's his body just trying to regulate all of the extra weight he gained, which is slowly coming off :)

His vet wants him off of Aza (we stopped Pred entirely about 2 weeks ago). I'm just so nervous to d/c it alltogether, I keep putting it off, and I don't know why, but with summer coming I'm just nervous- probably because that's when this whole thing started, and I don't know if it was triggered by his allergies, a bee sting, or what!

Lastly, we adopted our foster dog Honey- she has been great for him, they take the same thyroid meds and she has some of her own special needs. However, she gets him wrestling and playing which I love to see. The other night, they ran around our back shed chasing each other- another sight I hadn't seen since last year.

That's all our news! Huge hugs and love to you and Darcy! Thanks again for thinking of us :)

What a cutie boy. Good to hear Tiggs is getting better. I'm sure that with the care you've been giving him he'll be better sooner rather than later.
Just keep up the good work with him.

What a beautiful boy! He has such soulful eyes. I'd love to see a pic of his smile.

So glad to hear he is doing well and frolicking happily with his playmate. I'm sure you cherish all of the good days. Darcy doesn't have the energy to run and chase her ball, but I'm hopeful that one day she will be doing that again. I had repairmen at the door yesterday and when the doorbell rang she ran over and started barking. It was music to my ears.

Like Tiggs, Darcy is at times off certain foods and that always worries me. I am just so thankful when she has a hearty appetite. Beagles are little food hounds, so it's always a good sign when she's eating well. I've learned not to force food on her, for if I do she'll surely throw it up.

I would post a pic of Darcy, but I don't know how to do it. I've just recently learned how to use my digital camera and download pics to the photo album. I'm not a very technical person.

I love that Darcy barked at the repairman, I know what you mean about those small miracles!

I'm not too techy either. Maybe you could email it to me, and I can put it on my flickr, then post the link for you if you want? I'd be happy too, I'd love to see her!

Which kind of photo album/program are you downloading them to?

you can email me at melissalipani @ hotmail.com (remove spaces to email me and we can figure it out!

Hugs,

Thanks, Melissa. I'll send them just as soon as I can get everything together. I use Photo Loader with Hot Album.

Melissa,
I am not too surprised that Honey has become a member of your family. It is great that Tiggs has someone to fire him up. He is a splendid looking boy. We adopted a dog that had been left behind by his family and he has made a world of difference in our 11 year old dog. They play like they are both puppies.
Looking forward to more pictures and also some of Darcy.

So glad to hear about Tiggs. I spoke to Melissa a little while back about a skin reaction my dog Cyclops was having and found out her Cyclosporine dosage was too high, it went away when we lowered the dose.

I keep coming back to check on Tiggs =)
