| Hello- Everybody is so helpful on here, so I am hoping that someone is able to answer my question. This disease is very expensive, so I have started shopping around for the best price on medications. My dog Lucy takes 6 different medications right now. I have found that Walgreens has the best price for Cyclosporine. Prednisone is one of Target's $4 medications. She also takes Melatonin and Pepcid, which are easy enough to find cheap. I have been trying to find a company online that sells aspirin. Lucy takes 2 5mg capsules a day. It costs me $75 a bottle at the hospital because it has to be specially compounded. Does anyone know where I can get the aspirin cheaper? Also, does anyone know a good place to buy Azathioprine? And if anyone has had any experience using the Melatonin, can you let me know how it worked? Thanks so much for your help. Leigh & Lucy |

| Leigh, Yes, these meds are very expensive. I am sorry to say that. But it looks like you are attempting to find a few good sources for these to help cut your costs. I am glad you have found a good price for the cyclosporine. Please ask the pharmacist to check and make sure that this brand you are using is a cyclosporine microemulsion. There are two types of this drug and one has a different absorption rate that is not as effective. Some of the earlier generics where not the same as the brand types and this led to serious dosage problems with humans. I remember someone on this forum about 3 years ago getting a generic in Canada that was the less effective preparation. Melatonin is a hormone. If this were me I would be very cautious using this for my dog. I did not even like the side effects I had when I tried it. I am not sure why you are using it? Pepcid is easy to get in the generic formulation, just be sure it is not the advanced formula. Ask your vet what formulation of aspirin they would like you to use. There are several ways this can be delivered to the body. When you have found that information you can go to any drug store and buy that particular formulation and dosage. I never purchased Azathioprine. This is the generic of the brand Imuran and is a human drug. Most likely you can find the generic form at the same place you are getting the cyclosporine. my best patrice |
