Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - May 2010 Success Story now up at Meisha's Hope

The May 2010 AIHA/IMHA Success Story is now online at the Meisha’s Hope AIHA/IMHA Web site. This story is about Millie whose owner/caregiver/human mum, Samantha is a regular contributor to this forum.

You can read Millie’s most inspiring Success Story and see her photo at the following URL:

http://www.cloudnet.com/~jdickson/successstories.htm

In addition, you can see a photo of Millie and her canine siblings, Misty and Harry wearing their Meisha’s Hope Bandannas on the Bandanna photo page at the Meisha’s Hope Web site:

There are some other new photos on this page as well including a photo of Sugar Bear, dog of Darren who posts on this forum. There is also a great photo of 4 Cockers, all senior citizens whose canine sister, Tessie was a Success Story in January 2005.

Enjoy Millie’s story. May it provide HOPE and encouragement to those of you with dogs newly diagnosed with AIHA/IMHA as well as to those of you who have dogs who are continuing to struggle with the disease.

Hugs to all the Canine kids from my canine gal, Maggie, AKA The Magpie and me.

Millie's story is truly inspiring to those of us who continue to "soldier on" with our IMHA puppys. Her story was "just what the doctor ordered" for Mercedes and I today. Thanks for sharing and continuing to give us all HOPE!!!

Dear Sam & Millie

I am so excited to see Millie on the Meisha website - we have walked the same path to the Melbourne University clinic! What an amazing story, and Millie is indeed a doll - I would say she is indeed lucky to be adopted by you and John.

Heaps of congratulations to you all, and may Millie give you enjoyment for a few more years to come.

Best wishes

Silka

PS. Congratulations to you too Samantha, as you give so many on this board the benefit of your knowledge and it is easy to see how much compassion you have.

Thank-you to everyone on this board who helped me through Millie's illness. Without you, we may not have made it this far.
Silka - thank you for your kind words, they really do mean a lot to me.
Millie is a tough little dog, a fighter for sure. I am so proud of her.
Thanks to Joanne for allowing me to share her story, and for her very kind donation to the Meisha's Hope Fund in Millie's honour.

We are always thinking of those still battling this disease.

How fantastic to read about Millie's recovery. What a marvelous little dog. How I wished I had gone straight to the University Hospital at Werribee. I didn't even know about them until very later on in my battle with IMHA. I wish I had the knowledge I have now about this illness thanks to this forum. But it is always fabulous to read of a success story and gives hope to others who are now fighting this battle. Well done Samantha and thank you for helping others also with your knowledge. Well done Millie too.

Thanks Julie. Melbourne University vets are outstanding - I do recommend them highly. I think the Emergency Team are awesome.
Thanks to everyone for their kind words about Millie.

I had just clipped Millie for her Success Story photo on Meisha's Hope.
She honestly looks like a puppy when she's clipped. I had to take her in to our local vet to have her anal glands "popped", and a lady in the waiting room asked me how old my puppy was! I said "She's 12". She then said "you mean 12 weeks don't you?" - and I said "no 12 YEARS". I told Millie that's a major compliment to be confused for a puppy!! - but if you look closer, the grey hairs on her nose and chest give her age away! :) I hope I age as well as Millie....

Sam,

Congratulations on Millie's success at recovery!! She is adorbale!! Such a little sweetie. I hear you about people thinking your "older" dog is a pup. I am always getting asked how old my puppy is because Toqua still bounces like one! They are always shocked when I tell them, and usually think I mean months old instead of years! Although, with all we have been through, she has a tonne of grey around her eyes and mouth now (she is a brindle Border collie so it's easy to see). But, no one ever expects a 10 y/o dog to be running around like she is!!

Again, congrats on Millie's success. And sending well wishes for many many more years of a healthy Millie.
