It has been quite some time since I have posted here - but I do check in to read what is going on on occasion. I have been working much overtime (hee - paying for all those meds & vet bills - but no complaints from me!) Matilda was diagnosed March 17, 2008. She spent 1 week in intensive care, had 1 transfusion, and has battled multiple urinary tract infections / crystals in her urine - BUT - she is doing great. She is full of energy, eating well - and you would never know she had been so close to death such a short time ago. We have weaned her off the prednisone - SLOWLY - and are now in the process of cutting her clyclosporine back - first from 25mg 2xday to 25 mg once a day - and now to every other day - along with the azathioprine every other day. (she is 12lbs) I am still giving her the omneopral (sp) for nausea - as a precaution, and she is on thryoid. She will continue have her blood levels checked on a weekly basis for quite some time - to monitor how she reacts to the reduction in cyclosporine - and to allow me to quit panicking when she is sleeping - wondering if.... I feel so fortunate that I had such a wonderful vet to help us through all of this - and am so devastated to learn that he past away this week - at the young age of 39. So - please add him, his family, and his clinic in your prayers. I look at Matilda and just know that without Dr. Hablinski and his crew, she would probably not be alive today. And - I will keep all of you in my prayers - it is a devastating disease - but I have found so much information and support on this forum - and on Joanne's website - thanks to all of you - and prayers to you and your 4 footed friends! (and Steve - a special thanks to you for all you have done to help fight this disease!) jeanne

Jeanne, That is great news to hear that Matilda is doing so well. It is very sad that the Vet that helped save her passed at such a young age. May you and Matilda have nothing but good times for years to come. Penny

Jeanne, Thanks for sharing the wonderful news about Matilda. I pray she will continue to improve and be able to get off all the meds soon. So sorry about your vet. He sounds like the kind of wonderful vet everyone would love to have. Hopefully, he taught his crew well and there will be someone knowledgable to take over. Karen
