| Hello everyone. It's been a few days since I've updated about Maggie. She had a 2nd blood transfusion Thurs, 6/19. Her rbc count was at about 20. Satuday, 6/21 it was holding steady at 20. I took her in today and it had climbed to 30! The doctor seemed very optimistic about her prognosis, as am I, but I know there is still a long road ahead. She is to continue over the next 3-4 weeks on prednisone, Atopica, baytril (infection), reglen (nausea) and famotidine (pepcid). I worry about relapses and other complications (like blood clots) and long-term effects of the medications, but for now I know that these medications have saved Maggie's life. Without them, she would not have survived. Thank you all for your prayers and good wishes. I'll keep you updated on her progress. |

| My GSD puppy was diagnosed on Christmas Eve day of 2007. She was on high doses of Pred, then SLOWLY reduced over a period of months. She has been all medication free for over 2 months and doing great. Please, do not go off the pred too early or too fast. They can have a replapse very quickly that way. Sounds as if your Maggie is doing great, she must be a fighter. Good luck, and I can tell you from experience, they do recover and go on to lead a normal life. Sofie is now being shown in dog shows and doing great. You would never know how close she came to dying by looking at her now. |
