Maddison I have been dealing with this for just about 3 weeks now. Her last blood test was Friday and her pcv was up to 40!!! That is great news but she is still not eating and seems to have no energy. She has recently started to show interest in food but seems to not really have an apetite. She is very picky (which is a new thing) and this past Wed. was the first time she seemed hungry and ate 2 pieces of bread and hasn't really eaten since. I was just wondering if this is normal?

I brought home my bordercollie and she was very very picky....I went to high protein can food, used the acid controller as they described and made sure she had 2 nice meals a day...with her dry food on the floor. It was a few weeks before we noticed her even touch the dry food. She remained interested in treats...so we bought out the store- yet tried to get the healthier ones. Trooper was diagnosed 12/11/07 - she is better about eating now---prednisone will do that....but she still gets a small meal with her meds. No energy was (and still is to some extent- but clearly better) the symptom we saw the most Keep in touch.. I used the easy to digest foods and wellness formula stuff for her... The first thing she ate for me with interest was a scrambled egg... I wondered whether her mouth was sore?? Keep writing.. Chris

Hi Chris & Trooper. Thanks for the suggestions. I decided that she was hungry and just not interested in what I was giving her (because she, like Trooper was interested in treats) so I went to the store and bought several different brands & flavors of canned food & treats. She is very picky and only liked about 2 flavors but I am glad that I found something she will eat. I may still try eggs. We had our check up Friday and the results were a little discouraging. Her pcv is back down to 21% and her platelet count is extremely low so we have started on Atopica. It seems like from the info I have read that if she doesn't start to respond to the medication that she may not recover from this. She is still very juandice and lethargic and has started throwing/spitting up over the past week. I'm not sure what else to do for her but hope that we will see and improvement soon. I hope Trooper continues to do well!

Two suggestions that have worked for us. First, we used the Honest Kitchen which is a dehydrated food.... pretty expensive, but super quality and the dogs LOVE it. They would lick their bowls clean and actually lay on their bowl waiting for more. LOL. Then we have also used canned tripe (trippet brand). Really stinky, but, again, they love it and can hardly wait for it to come out of the can. Try mixing either of these in the regular food and you may be surprised. Both are excellent, holistic quality and so good for them. BTW, you can read more at www.thehonestkitchen.com

I know this sounds rather expensive but Dexter would only eat cooked chicken when he was really low and insisted on being hand fed. But hey if that's what it takes and it was only for a few days. He found it hard to eat the dried food so I would soften it with a bit of gravy then he would eat it... Good luck...
