Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Lots of questions for Kahlu

Hello everybody,
we are approaching the end of week six, have a blood test tomorrow and see the vet on Saturday. I have some questions I want to throw out, so I can discus it with her.
So far the only supplement Kahlu gets is Milk Thistle and Forti Flora. Is there anything else, like a multivitamin that could be beneficial for him? Should I continue with the Forti Flora, even though his stools are fine right now?
He has very bad breath and burps a lot, something new. Is that from the prednisone?
I am still trying to figure out what triggered the AIHA. He had his boosters 3 months before diagnosis. I treated him with Advantage a good month before diagnosis and then again two days before. The vet said it would be unlikely that the Advantage is the culprit, what do you think?
He is on three different medications to protect his stomach. He was on 3x 1g Sufralcate from the start. After throwing up blood he was also put on Raniditine 2x 1.7 ml and Misoprostol 2x 0.5. That was 4 weeks ago and never happened again. His stools are good and he eats lots. Should he still take all these stomach drugs? He is on 2x 30mg prednisone and 50mg azathiopine.
He has little bouts of energy, but is still very tired. He seems to be a lot happier and much more interested what is going on.
I would appreciate any input on any of these questions.

Hi Brigitti and Kahlu
Ginger's vet recommended Pet Tinic and I believe Dr Dodd's recommends that also.

Pet Tinic is a palatable liquid vitamin mineral supplement, just mix it in with her food.

Good Luck with the blood test tomorrow.

My 6 year old black lab died from AIHA last year. We spent over $10,000 trying to save her. Vet never could give us a cause. However, like you, we gave her a Frontline Plus treatment and within days she started showing signs. She was perfectly healthy and energetic until then. Vet says she just doesn't know but we will NEVER put another flea treatment on any of our dogs now or in the future other than a natural one. Good Luck and praying for Kahlu.

Brigitte, I would think you would want ot keep her on the stomach protectants but if she is on 2 ask if she should still be on both. Make sure you get the PCV test and a CBC if she hasn't had one recently
I would also ask about hte pet tinic if her numbers are still low and denamirin (same e) human form which protects the liver or the one that has both tha that and the milk thistle together.

There have bee a lot of posts here where people say their dogs contracted AIHA right after flea med application.

Good luck
