| Mathilda, a 13lb min dachshund - female, spayed - was diagnosed with IMHA March 17, 2008. She spent only 1 week in the intensive care ward, and only required 1 blood transfusion. We kept her on all the meds for 6 months, and then gradually started weaning her off - the prednison first, then the azithioprine, and then finally the atopica/cyclosporine. Her last meds - other than daily thyroid - was on Feb 19, 2009. She was released to play with other dogs at doggy daycare in Sept of 2008, and we gradually increased her exposure and playtime over the weeks and months that followed. I have attempted to post several times since her last meds, but hesitated because I didn't want to "jinx" it. I will say that Mathilda now looks and acts like a very health and playful pup - even with her little gray muzzle. I still log in and read - and my hear aches with you. It is a long road - but Mathilda is proof for me that IMHA can be beat - and we keep each and every one of you in our prayers! |

| Thanks Jeanne! It's great to hear about long-term survivors, especially when they are medication free! It's an inspiration for all those battling this disease, especially in the early stages. Mathilda is amazing and I love hearing these success stories! Congratulations to you both on getting through this! Samantha and Millie. |
