| Hello all, After getting copies of Aiyanas blood work yesterday I am quite concerned about her liver. I have been feeding her the liver cleansing diet for the past 6 weeks but have been adding 1/4 to 1/2 cup of her kibble in with it. Since her liver values have increased again, I discussed it with my vet and we need to stop the kibble. For some reason my vet has a real aversion to protein LOL, cause he said the proportion of 1/3 fish or chicken was too much. After losing Wolfie to this disease less than 2 years ago, I am so afraid Aiyana will get too thin like Wolfie did, the poor girl had nothing left to fight with. I asked the Vet how much I should be feed, he of course prefers pasta, but Aiyana hates pasta... he would not give me an answer. Soooo for a dog that is 75 - 80 lbs, how much of the liver cleansing diet would you be feeding? Thanks in advance, Julie and Aiyana |

| shoud be 2 % of body weight, less if less active dog. Wylie was on it for a long time, but her results didnt drop until after she was off the pred. I dont think it drops the values, but what it does it let the liver digest the food much easier, causing it to work less. Laurie |

| Laurie, Thank you so much... so I should be feeding her about 1.6 pounds (80 lb. dog)? She has always been such a chow hound LOL, I am not sure that will be enough calories to keep her going. Aiyana is definitely not too active anymore, but she still loves to eat. I had been feeding her about 1 cup of the mixture with another 1/2 cup of kibble 3 x a day, but our kibble is EVO which is high fat, high protein. I tried another food, Wellness whitefish, sweet potato - she does not like that one. I have noticed since she has been on this her coat has gotten beautiful again. When she got so sick after the meloxicam and dehydrated her coat looked awful. I am enjoying each day with her, she is still wagging that tail, able to get up and go outside, carrying around her stuffed babies, and eating with gusto. There definitely is still quality of life here, I pray we can pull her through. Praying for all of you, Julie |

Julie, that is correct amount, hre is a good article on liver cleansing diet http://www.b-naturals.com/newsletter/liver/. I would get her off the EVO. I had my lab on it once boy did he ballon up. I think you mentioned in another thread about you were surprised at Aiyana bloodwork. I suggest putting together a spreadsheet of her numbers, I did it for Wylie and it was an eye opening experiences. Let me know I will email it to you so can get an idea of what I did. Laurie |

| Laurie, Thanks again for all the info. All 3 dogs have been on EVO for over a year, but they are getting a small amount. After our Sibe had a grand mal seizure when we switched foods, we had to go back to EVO. They have done well with it, but Aiyana is off of it and only getting the liver cleansing diet now. I am giving her closer to 4 cups a day, 2 lbs. split up into 4 feedings, I know she needs more than just 2 1/2 - 3 cups a day. I will see how she does on that - if she starts to get fat, we will cut it down. That old girl is such a creature of habit.. when our Sibe started having the seizures, we incorporated a couple of tablespoons of natural vanilla icecream before bed, of course all 3 get it. I forgot the other night, you'd have though we forgot to feed her, she went from her bowl to the freezer back to her bowl about 10 times LOL. I did type up a comparison of Aiyanas blood work, unfortunately can't post it here cause the copy paste won't line up the columns. At least I will have a record of how things are going. blessings, Julie and Aiyana |

| Hi Julie, My one year Labradoodle was recently diagnosed with AIHA. I currently feed both he and his sister boiled chicken or ground meat with IAMS hard food and IAMS soft food. I mix this combination every morning and every night and they both love it. Spencer seems to be doing better each day but of course I am getting educated on this recent diagnosis and his liver values are all in range so far. I hope his sister never comes down with it. GOOD LUCK to you! |

| Hi Julie, great that you are doing the liver cleansing diet, i think it really helps. In addition, though, i would add milk thistle and SAMe. Kent is almost two years with AIHA, and at one point his liver values were skyhigh. Members on this list suggested MT and SAME and his numbers are now NORMal!! yippee!. Kent is 30lbs, takes 175 mg MT and 100mg SaMe a day. He takes lots of other things too but for the liver i think these two vitamins are important and go hand in hand with the diet.
