Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Liver cleaning diet

Hi

Just a quick question - Billy went to see a specialist on Thursday and she scanned his liver and took bloods etc. His liver was very enlarged. She rang today, the bloods came back and it looks like he has an infection in his liver. Got some AB's to start tonight and my vet said maybe we should change his diet. I've looked at Dr Dodds recipe, got the fish and potatoes - question is how do I cook the fish? Do I steam or boil? Also do I start him on this straiht away or do I have to wean him onto it like a normal change of food?

Thanks in advance

Some sites below you may want to try.

I baked the fish and potatoes then mashed the potatoes and froze them in small baggies - this way I was only cooking once a week. Much easier to thaw in the microwave too. With the italian herb seasoning it really smells good.

After awhile I substituted skinless boneless chicken in place of the fish.

There is holistic food that can be purchased at the store that she recommended to me once when my dog stopped eating this. His appetite has been good since. There are several but the one I am using is Eagle Pack - It has no wheat, no corn, and I think no soy. Hope this helps.

I poach the fish. I try to get pollock or cod. It takes no time at all to prepare, a few minutes in simmering water. I dice baked sweet potato into fine pieces and mix it with the flaked fish. My dog, Ren, love it!

Aiyana loved the liver cleansing diet, and her old coat became beautiful again...I would alternate fish and chicken for her. I can't remember if someone here gave me this link, or I found it on my own, but there are some other variations that I tried. Aiyana was on it for 8 weeks and changing it up once in a while kept us both from getting bored.
