I apologize for not being on much, lately. I'm either doing too much or getting old. Lindy's foot healed up quite nicely. Great after we spend $1000 plus on it. Dr. Bayliss wanted a CBC 10 days after she went off of the antibiotic, so took her to the local vet on Thursday. Friday morning, I noticed a pink bump between her surgery toe. On closer examination, there was definitely a pinkish/red bump the size of a pea. I put a call into the soft tissue specialist that had done the surgery. It was mid afternoon before she called me back. She wanted to put Lindy back on the antibiotic, so called it in to our local supermarket. I was in a bit of a hurry, as we were supposed to babysit our two year old grandson that evening. When we arrived at our daughter's house, I asked if she had something to "hide" the pill in. She did, so I wrapped it up and Lindy swallowed it right down. About a half hour later, I thought the pill seemed awfully large, so checked to see of the milligrams was correct. It was then I read the bottle and I had given her a 500 mg pill when she was to have had 125 mg. OMG. I didn't have CSU's phone number with me, so left my husband to watch our grandson and drove Lindy home to call the specialist. She suggested I give Lindy a tsp. of hydrogen peroxide to make her throw up. Tried that..waited 5 mins..nothing. Her second option was to pour 1/2 tsp of table salt on her tongue. Within 10 secs she was heaving on the towel. The pill was still wrapped in the piece of ravioli dough..Thank goodness. I thought I done somthing that might end up killing her!! I soaked her toe in a solution of warm water and hydrogen peroxide, hoping that would help. This morning the original pea sized bump is almost gone, but between her first and second toes is an even larger goose egg bump!! I'm still soaking it and am hopeful this too shall go down in another day or two. Dr. Bayliss said there was a posibility these infections were caused from Lindy being on pred for so long and then going off, not a thorn or sticker as we originally thought. Has anyone else had this problem with infections when their fur babies go off of pred? Sorry for the novel.. Nancy

Nancy, I'm so sorry to hear that Lindy is having these problems. Angelo developed numerous infections but only while ON Prednisone. We will send good thoughts her way. Jeanne in New Jersey Goldens, Angelo & Archie

Nancy...we are still dealing with the skin infections from the prednisone. Daisy had to go off the prednisone suddenly from her surgery Even where her collar rubbed, the fur is gone. Her pads have become very thin so I have to watch what I let her walk on when we go for walks. It reduces their ability to fight infections as it does in humans.

Hi all, thanks for the responses. Yesterday the new bump between Lindy's two other toes was about the size of a grape. She was in obvious pain. I soaked it in hydrogen peroxide, which only seemed to make it worse. Finally last night, I soaked it in Epsom salts. Then I said a prayer over her, tried some hands on massage on the upper part of her leg, as her foot was much too sore and went to bed. This morning there were two drops of blood next to her and the bump had drained. I put a baby sock on it with some tape to hold it on and currently she is walking on it. Ron, as I understand, Daisy is still having problems even though she is no longer taking pred? Maybe it takes awhile for the system to go back to the pre-pred days. I will definitely keep Daisy in my thoughts and prayers. Jeanne, I'm sorry to hear about Angelo's infections while on pred. It is a wonder drug with many bad side effects. Amazingly, Lindy didn't have any problems with infections while she was on the pred. Everyone seems to react differently to this drug. Ron, how long has Daisy been off of the pred? Does the vet say if her paw pads will thicken back up, eventually? Nancy
