Some time ago, someone on the forum posted a website at gratefulness.org for lighting candles to our loved ones who are fighting or who lost their fight to IMHA. We've had several losses recently and several new cases, so I thought it would be good to post again. I light a candle for my Wiley around once a week, and it's a comforting thing. http://www.gratefulness.org/candles/candles.cfm?l=eng&gi=AIHA

Brenda, Thank you for posting this. I see that you are from nearby VA. Are you in NoVA? Last weekend was truly beautiful here wasn't it, and my husband and I were really missing our Murf who passed away 2 months ago. It's on those beautiful weathered days that we miss him all the more. He would have enjoyed the day out with us. Thanks again for sharing this.

I don't get here as often as I used to. I do think of everyone affected by this horrific disease and say a prayer daily. I feel so blessed that Cody ( our rescue springer) has continued to do well. I am so glad that many of you have found comfort in the candle site... it's a wonderful way to take a moment to reflect.

Brenda, As painful as it remains...thank you for the moments again with my boy. Together maybe our candles together can become the torch that lights the way into the darkness of this tragic illness and takes it away, rather than our beloved canine soulmates. "It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness." I don't remember the author of this quote but it is my hope that as we continue to fight back through the funds we raise and give for research that we can both light the torch and curse the darkness of this disease into oblivion. With painful gratitude, Cheryl (and always Barkley)

Chrissie --- yes, I am in Northern Virginia, in Arlington. And yes, we had a beautiful fall weekend here in the DC metro area. The beautiful days always exacerbate our longing for our dogs, because those days usually meant walks, either after work or on the weekends. We lived for our evenings and weekends with our sweet beagle girl. Cheryl -- That's a great quote. I am glad the candles provide comfort for you, as they do for me. Light seems to help when the darkness of the grief gets too strong.

Brenda, Wonderful that you live in Arlington! We moved to Shirlington for the wonderful dogpark and Murf loves going there. And we live for the evening walks and weekend mornings in the dogpark as well. Feel free to email, maybe we can meet up to share sweet memories of our little ones over coffee sometime. Chrissie

I've used that site through other forums, but found one that is special to me as it appears the candles never disappear after they're lit. All you need to do is save a copy of the link so you can send it to friends and also save your dog's link to view candles periodically. After Miracle lost her fight with AIHA I found this through a pet loss site. I posted Miracle's links in one of her diary entries. http://www.dotsphinx.com/lightacandle/ To add to Miracle’s candle: http://www.dotsphinx.com/lightacandle/public/add/?thread=17641 To view all of Miracle’s candles: http://www.dotsphinx.com/lightacandle/public/view/?thread=17641&lang=en Thank you again for all the support I've received through this forum. I do read the threads every chance I get and pray for those still fighting the fight. Hugs and prayers to all. Ramona
