Today Tori began showing signs of red spots on one ear showing that the platelets aren't improving. Tonight she has small bruising pots on her tummy and legs. Even though the Prednisone has been increased twice in less than 2 weeks, she will go get her blood checked tomorrow and will probably be put one an additional surpressant. She still shows no other signs or symptoms. But we know how dangerous this is. The fact that she could bleed internally is a real possibility. We would appreciate your prayers for this to stablize quickly. We are very concerned. Blessings, Cindi & Tori (Evans Syndrome)

Cindi My heart goes out to you. I am so sorry you and Tori are going through this. I am not that familiar with Evans Syndrome but as any other disease it tears your heart out. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Sincerely, Joann and Keeli

Thanks, Joann~ I hadn't heard about Evans Syndrome either, except from a couple of posts, but Tori didn't have that until now. Unfortunately, Tori has been in remission after having IMHA since August 2010 and was on a 5 mg Prednisone every 5 days. When we went two weeks ago for her 3 mos CBC, we discovered she now had immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) which causes the platelets to not produce enough to cause her blood to clot. Hers was at 48 then 86 last week, but it should be over 150. When a dog has AIHA/IMHA and ITP it is called Evans Syndrome. The vet told me if I see bruising or spotting then the meds would have to be increased or another supressant added. This is where we are and I cannot wait until next Thursday, since she is getting worse. Time is so very critical when dealing with this condition. Praying you and Keeli are holding your own. And thanks for being here tonight...I needed the support and listening ear! Blessings, Cindi & Tori

Cindi, I am so sorry to hear about this turn of events. I am glad to hear you are visiting the vet tomorrow. I WILL be thinking of you. Dr. Dodds has a protocol on her website to treat severe thrombocytopenia. It begins on page 2. http://www.hemopet.org/files/treatmentofbleedingdisorders.pdf It might be a good idea to write her and ask for her advice. I know she would respond quickly, esp for Tori's benefit. Remove the spaces to send: hemopet @ hotmail. com my best patrice
