Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Konakion Vitamin K

Hi everyone Charlie our airedale terrier was diagnosed with AIHA on 25th April after having bleeding gums and black stools. He had a transfusion and was prescribed Prenisolone 35mg twice daily and also Konakion 20mg three times daily to help the clotting. Has anyone been prescibed this drug before or know of any interactions with prednisolone.

Julie,
Konakion is simply vitamin K in a special formula. It is known to be important in clotting. There is probably no contraindication administering it with any other med. Call your vet tomorrow for help.

Has Charlie been exposed to some kind of poisoning? This is a standard treatment protocol for this.

See: http://www.argosgr.org/cidag/poisonantieng.asp
Treatment: Konakion (Vitamin K) injection to help clot the blood, 5-20 mg, depending on size and weight of animal.
