Its been very hard to look at this site lately - so much sadness and loss. I am so sorry for everyone who has lost their cherished companions. It is heartbreaking to read about the losses. I wanted to share some good news that my 4 year old standard poodle Kola is past his one year anniversary of diagnosis with AIHA and is doing well. I keep him on 2.5 prednisone daily, just in case that small bit of pred is keeping his immune system in check. If you're new to the site, have hope. We thought we would lose our dog in Dec 2008, but he did recover and is in good health a year later.

I also forgot to add that my sister has an older standard poodle who had two AIHA episodes when she was young dog. Her dog has done very well for many years since then - also kept on low dose of prednisone for years after the second episode.

Thanks Darren and Johnny. This site has been SO helpful to me in the past year - for the wealth of information and also to know that others are going through similar experiences. When I found this site, I remember I was so scared by the losses, but also very heartened to hear hopeful stories. I do look at Kola's gums every day and worry about every little change in status. You have to live with the vigilance and worry, and lots of gratitude for the days you do have with your pal. Our dogs are just amazing in their loyalty and trust in us through everything.
