Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Keiko update 10/25

Keiko went to the vet yesterday, first time in a month, and her PCV is holding steady at 52%. This is with a 2 week 20% reduction of pred in place. She is now down to 0.27 ML every day. We are definitely doing the Happy Dance here!!! Now the vet here will call the vet she saw when this all started, and they will decide about the Imuran. Her dosage has not changed since June and she takes 0.64 ml EOD. Ideally she will be off all drugs eventually.
Another good note is that Keiko did not gain any weight in the last 4 weeks!! First time that this has stopped since the onset of IMHA. She is holding steady at 9.2 pounds.
She was barely 7 pounds at the beginning of June.

So all in all a wonderful report.

We will continue to hold all of you and your babies in our prayers. I bless you all for the support given here.

Hang in there, there can be light at the end of the tunnel :-))

Jess,

That is great news for Keiko and for you! SO HAPPY! I can see why you are doing the HAPPY DANCE! We would be to if Holly ever hit those numbers.

Holly has also held her weight for the last month, I think they must hit a point and stop gaining. She was 12 and now 14.1 and has held that for the last 2 months.

Holly's Internist said to wean off all the prednisone first and once that was done, then if numbers still held then we could start the Imuran to EOD. Of course I am not listening to her about just stopping the prednisone, we are now going to every third day of 2.5mg, and still on Imuran every day 2mg.

Keep those paws doing that HAPPY DANCE!
