Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Joey over one year

Hi,
Joey our border collie was diagnosed on 24/11/08 with this terrible illness which my vets said was due to his spleen. We are now nearly 16 months on and I'm glad to say that all is well. His pcv is stable at 41 and although he developed an allergic condition which means he has to take daily doses of piriton he is back to his normal self.Still 2kgs overweight because of the steroids and inspite of a low fat diet he is exercising for 1-2 hours daily and his fitness levels have got noticeably better.Having lost our spaniel George to this horrible disease we were really devastated when told Joey had it and it's been really hard at times to cope but hopefully now we are through the worst.Just wanted to say hang on in there and don't give up hope.Love and best wishes to you all,
Corrie and Joeyxx

Hi Corrie

What a lovely post; it doesnt seem fair that you should have two dogs with the same illness, Im so sorry to hear about George, but pleased to hear about Joey. Ive lost Riley not so long ago, and I too have a border collie, Bonnie, and it does make one nervous but Im training myself to just enjoy each day and not worry so much. I would not have coped without Bonnie by my side.

My congratulations to you all, may Joey continue to keep well and improve.

Bravo Corrie. I can only imagine the pain of having two kids go through it, but maybe George had a special hand in helping Joey too, and preparing you for the fight.

You are one tough mama! Congrats on one year, happy new birthday to Joey!

Congrats to such a milestone! I know you're thrilled! I am just beginning to climb the mountain named AIHA and hope to post such great news myself in a year.

Hope the wellness continues!
