Hi All, I am starting a new thread for Gail who posted this news this morning on another thread: Gail, SD I just happened upon this site after learning of the diagnosis of my Aussie/Heeler, Jenny. She's 12+ and has never been ill -- until now. She is befuddled and sad and wants to come home from the hospital. I don't even know where to begin or know what to do! I can't quit crying for her and for us! This is the first dog I've ever had and she's just wonderful. We had hoped that she would pass on in a much gentler way. This is just awful.

Gail, I am so very sorry to hear that your most beloved Aussie/Heeler, Jenny has recently been diagnosed with AIHA/IMHA. If you have not read my Web site on the disease, you might want to do so. The URL is: http://www.cloudnet.com/~jdickson/ Be sure to follow the links on the first page to many other sites on AIHA/IMHA that will be very helpful to you and do read the Success Stories pages. They will show you what has worked for other dogs in terms of treatment options as well as give you a lot of HOPE. While AIHA/IMHA is a very difficult disease, dogs, even older dogs, CAN and DO recover from it and go on to live happy, healthy lives. I truly do know how hard this is so please be assured you and your dear Jenny are in my thoughts and prayers during these most difficult days.

Gail, I am so sorry you have had to join us but glad that you found this board. It is so difficult to get the diagnosis and try to grasp how your perfectly well dog can suddenly be so gravely ill. Feel free to pour out your heart here we all have been in your shoes so we do know what you are going through. The most important thing is to have a Vet that is well versed in treating AIHA. It does help to have one that is open to your input as well. Read up at Joanne's site so you can have a better understanding about both the disease and the treatment. Take a look at the success stories while you are there. It is not an easy road but know that by coming here you will not have to walk it alone. Penny
