| Jaspers good news didn't last long. Even when you are down to 2.5 mg a day things don't go to plan! We have had another trip to the vets this time with vomiting up bile and Jasper has lost some fur on his ears. On closer inspection he has inflamed skin from scratching. Dreaded mites!!!! Or worse sounding fox mange!!!!!! which is due to his immunity being lowered. He has an prescribed antibacterial shampoo from the vets which I have tried on him today. We only have to shampoo his head as it is contained to there. To be honest he loves it as it massages and scratches and itches his ears in all the right places at the moment. She also gave me a spot on treatment which I am very very loathe to use. So any advice would be helpful as to other remedies. The vomiting is acid from his stomach lining due to the steroids, he has been vomiting in the evenings on an empty stomach....so has meds to calm that down. If no improvement in hair loss and scratching back in a week.... and its contagious!!!! Jackie and Jasper |

| I use a powder called "Thornit" for my Lhasa Apso (he is not AIHI). The breed is prone to ear problems and he has to have excess hair plucked every couple of months. This can lead to infections but the thornit helps to prevent problems. It is a canker powder that helps with a multitude of possible issues. Obvioulsy check with your vet first but this may help. | I used to use baby oil on my cats for ear mites. It seemed less toxic than any alternatives and was first done by a Vet for me. You have to use it sparingly or they will be walking around like a drunken sailor for a while. Penny |
