Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Jasper

Jasper is due to start his reduction this week, but my mum was rushed into hospital over the weekend with what was suspected gallstones. The ultrasound revealed no gallstones..........but liver nodules!!!!

Waiting for a ct scan today when we may know more!!!! Scary times!!!

Depending on those results I will decide on whether or not to start his reduction .

Head is all over the place at the moment!!!!

My thoughts are with you Jackie, hope your mum is going to be ok.
I know just how scary that first reduction is and was scared stiff of doing it. The vet reassured me slightly by saying that even if Ernie DID relapse then it would be a slower relapse and not a sudden collapse, because he's still on the pred even if it is a lower dose. I've been watching him like a hawk since his reduction, but his last blood test was excellent and he seems to be doing just fine so far.

Jackie, I hope your Mom is going to be okay. Life seems to throw so much at us at times doesn't it?

Good luck with Jasper's first reduction. Like Sue, I'm nervous every time we start a new reduction. Duck did have a relapse when we went to the "every other day" dose but quickly recovered when we increased the prednisone to every day again. So now we are taking it a lot slower and he is doing great so far.

Keep us posted.

Sorry to hear about your mum.
I've timed Boy's reductions to avoid any times I might be away on a business trip. In fact, every reduction has had a positive impact on him, although I'm scared to say that - tempting fate!

Thanks for all your kind thoughts, you are all so kind.

I have decided to go ahead with the reduction as it is half term and both the kids are around and about most of the time. At least there is someone here best part of the day so we will have teamwork.

As you said Sue, he will still be on the pred, so should he seem out of sorts, its not a case of him having stopped the medication.

Fingers crossed!

No news, but mum has had the CT this afternoon, just waiting to see what the consultant has to say. Back up to the hospital this evening.

Jackie, so sorry to hear about your mother, any news on the scan yet?
How is Jasper doing on his reduction of Pren, how many tablets is he on now?
Trixie, as you know, is on one Pren a day, she seems to be fine, although, she still seems to pant, not all the time, but enough for me to notice.
Grrrrrr, the fireworks here are not helping things, she gets really stressed by them so of course this is causing her to pant more! (I'd like to see them banned!!) I'll be taking Trixie back to the Vets next week for another blood test, to see how she is doing on just 1 Pren.
Sue, good to hear Erni is doing fine :+)
Hilary, how many reductions of Pren has Boy had?

I am finding this really difficult.........

Okay....mums news is the worst. Its not looking very good. Tumour in her liver is secondary, but a biopsy has been taken from the duodenum via magic eye. Still waiting for the results of that.

Mum has come home for the weekend as its her birthday on Monday, and there was nothing that could be done over the weekend but she will be going back in on Tuesday and we are heading to the oncology ward......

We started Jaspers reduction but he has a little streaky blood on the outside of his poo, so he has been back to the vet yesterday and is being treated for a mild infection and is on antibiotics. He seems alot brighter today.

Good luck to you all out there....I will check in when I feel strong enough.
