Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Jack's bone marrow biopsy results

Well, Jack results are back. He has no sign of cancer or sideroblastic anemia. They feel it is related to auto immune disease. The specialist said, the problem is with normal AIHA, adult red blood cells are being destroyed by the body. Howver, Jack's body is destroying the baby red blood cells (retrics). He is going for another CBC tomorrow afternoon. After the results, I pushed them to put him on the Atopica ASAP. She seemed to agree with my suggestion. FINALLY!!!!!!

Good news he doesn't have cancer or the sideroblastic anemia. Long live Jack! I'm thinking of ya!

Good to hear you finally got the results back. There are several others on here dealing with this type of anemia. You're not alone.
Have they checked his vitamin B levels? Maybe he has a defienciency with this. If I were you I'ld have these checked sooner rather than later. That way you'll know. Could be another thing to cross off the list.
I read in a previous post that Jack has high serum iron levels. My Tessy also has this problem and I was told to discontinue giving supplements containing iron. I also stopped feeding the foods that are extremely high in iron. She only gets small portions of these foods now. I'll be checking her iron levels soon so I'll let you know what I find out with regards to the numbers being high. What are Jacks iron levels. Tessy's were below 300....high but not tooo high to overly worry.

I hope Jack turns a corner and starts to respond to the meds better. I'll keep in in my thoughts and prayers. Keep us posted on what you find out.
