Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Jack in icu

Well jack is in icu and is now on oxygen. He has fluid in muscles and tissues. The inflammation in his legs are causing the nerve problems. They have no answers.

I am so sorry Robin. I hope and pray that Jack pulls through. At least you know he is in good hands and that you can find a little time to rest, knowing that he is being taken care of by people who care. I have said multiple prayers for Jack, Mitch, Nollaig, Phoebe, Oliver and all the rest of the pups on this site over the last few months. I am hoping that you all will make it. take care and god bless.

Hi Robin,
We just had Callie to the vet today after a roller coaster weekend. Her back leg swelled and was rock hard. We found out today it is infection build up. Callie had this happen two weeks ago with her front paw and the vet lanced her pad area and all the infection oozed out. Now it's the back leg. That burst open through her paw as well today. Callie was put on Zeniquin again. It did help but I think we took her off it too soon. I am sure your vets thought of this already, but it never hurts to relay this info. My prayers are with Jack tonight.

Robin,
it must be so hard without Jack at your house. It looks like he is in good hands. Maybe you can get a bit of a rest. Because he will be back home again soon! You have to believe that. He will be stronger and you will be ready to fight this disease again.

He is yellow and in liver dysfunction but not liver failure. I am heart broken. How do you make the decision to let your best friend die? I feel like I am killing my best friend!!!

Dear Robin,

As far as I know, the liver is an organ that can repair itself very well.
As for letting Jack go, of course only you with the advice of your vet can make that decision and it is never an easy one. I am a strong believer that dogs let us know when they had enough. you know your dog so well and you will pick that up. Go with your gut feeling. Remember that Jack is not in pain, just very, very tired. Don't ever blame yourself! You are doing everything in your power for your boy and he knows that.

Hang in there, best wishes,

Brigitte

It is not an easy decison Robin, believe me. With Oliver, he just started to fail within a couple of days. He was still eating his usual healthy way, but things were slowing down. He could have received a transfusion, if I had driven a long ways away, but that would have been a temporary fix for him. He fought a good fight and was a strong little puppy for the short time he had this disease. You will know if and when it is time. Yesterday was the worst day of my life. I felt the same way as you. Only you will know in your heart what is right to do. I am thinking of you and Jack. Bless you both.
