| Hi, I seriously suggest her book for every dog owner and not just for hypothyroidism. It will help for all future health conditions since her advice regarding detection of thyroid problems applies to the detection of any symptom. She encourages the dog owners role as an "expert" opinion on your dog's health and status. The more you know about them and their behavior, the better you are prepared to detect problems and changes, including subtle changes earlier in the course of the problem. Behavior is the biggest clue to illness other than test results and even then it seriously guides what tests one should do and how to interpret them even. She covers a lot of different subjects that are related to a healthy thyroid, and much of what to avoid as well. This applies to AIHA, cancer, everything. It is also very informative as to what should be tested and why when it comes to thyroid function, which she also explains clearly. It also clearly points out why hyothyroidism is so often mis-diagnosed. The information presented is well suppported with case studies and research. And she has organized it so that the more technical aspects are in one chapter for vets and techs etc. I immediaely lent my book to my vet (they are very familiar with her work, but had not read her book). I will offer it to anyone nearby who wants to read it. Well worth the time; your dog and likely many of your friend's dogs will benefit for sure. Richard and Dog Dylan |

| Hi, just a word of caution for those of you that are new to Dr. Becker (presenter of the inteview, Dr. Becker is a DVM and her husband Dr. Mercola is an MD). There are a lot of great things to be learned from them, but they are also health care pushers. They do a hard sell on almost every subject, usually after the more informative sections. Dr. Becker also has a news letter (as does her husband), with all kinds of valuable tips and stuff to buy. I have found them to almost always be consistent with the other research I read though and they have been supporting proper testing of vaccines and proper administration of vaccines for a while. They tend to over support new things, sometimes “fads”, so the more conservative of you may not like their site much. I read everything with caution and validate it elsewhere too, but I do find Them to be compatible with my health care views in general. They often present nutritional information which is controversial to some degree, but quite frankly was the same as what I was reading elsewhere in my research on the autoimmune condition, Crohn's Disease. The old way of treating it is just not good enough, since it really does not deal with the toxin causing the problem at all. Raw milk is one subject from their site and other Crohn's related sites that I am looking into now for my dogs. Although Crohn’s is an intestinal condition, it is not far off from the toxic model that is AIHA. I think diet in general is likely one of the most important factors in a good health plan for your dogs before and certainly after AIHA, just as it is for Crohn’s patients. Certainly as important as a healthy vaccination protocol and there is lot's of good info on Dr. Becker's website, just be weary of the ads and that they make and sell products that they are supporting. | Brigitte, Johnny, and Richard -- thank you for the heads-up on the interview and review of Dr. Dodds' new book. I've been planning to order the book, but haven't gotten around to it, so you've reminded me again. I know this book will help with my goal to be a more informed advocate for my new beagle/basset girl, Zelda. |
