Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - if it's not one thing....

Isn't it always SOMETHING? I am having a mouse problem! Have an older home with probably loys of tiny little opening areas and from what I understand the mouse problem is very prevelant in the city this year. Trying to use the snap traps, but does't seem to be totally working. The pesky critters are apparently likng my house even though the food is closed away tight!
I contacted a new exterminator and he said the only way you can rid them (as they breed every 6 weeks!) is to put (poison) bait in areas where the dogs (obviously) do not go. I hate using bait but I am getting desperate. I do not know this for a fact but eating small mouse droppings (as my guys are always licking the floor) can cause problems and I am would not doubt that the tapeworm situation I have just treated stemmed from mouse droppings. (Believe me my house is CLEAN!!..but it doesn't seem to matter......). So, do I trust that the mice go outside and die after the bait drys them out.... or is there a chance my 'kids' could (echhh!!) find a dead mouse and eat it. That's all Choe needs to do is get a dose of poison. This is a dimemma!! Any insight would be appreciated. This whole thing is grossing me out.

I'm sorry your having a mouse problem...that is unpleasant. I don't have a lot of experience with this but no...I would not trust that they will go outside and die. i worked at an animal shelter and we had a problem (people stored hay behind our building). Traps were set and some poison was put out (safely of course) and while we never had any animals get sick...we did have mice die inside the walls, which is a horrible smell that last for a while! You may want to stick with the traps...good luck!

Jan,

I sent you a personal e-mail of what we did to take care of mice problems that we had in our rental cabins that we manage.
