Hi everyone You have all been so supportive of me during the battle with Riley, and also losing my job just before Christmas, which has been an added strain. I want to let you know that I received a job offer today and start tomorrow, so there is a ray of light there. In a way I was grateful to be able to have spent some quality time with Riles and not be away at work each day, worrying myself sick over him. He followed me everywhere, though he used to be such an independent dog, with ME following him! I still see him and hear him coming through the dog door - I believe he had something to do with this offer, given the timing. Now I will worry about Bonnie as we have been spending lots of time lately, but I will wake early and continue our morning walks. Wishing you all good news and your dogs improved health. Thank you all, and thank you Riley. XXXX Silka

Dear Silka, Great that some positive things are happening in your life. I know that you will never stop missing Riley just as I will never stop missing Kahlu. It is three weeks today, that he left us. I thought i was doing pretty good, but then out of the blue, I had to cry last night. It is good to know that there are so many people out there understanding.... I am so glad I have Ripley, my daughters Standard Poodle with me. She is working for the Olympics and has no time for him. He grew up with Kahlu and misses him a lot too, just like your Bonnie misses Riley. When Ripley came to us as a Guide Dog puppy, he was only to stay for 2 months, because after that I got Kahlu. Ripley stayed until he was ready for training, went away and came back because he was chasing birds. Now he is here with me, making the grieving easier. Good luck with the new job and best wishes to you and Bonnie, Brigitte

Silka, I am very happy to here that you are not permanently redundant. Ha! As difficult as these past few months have been for you I still feel things happened the way they did so that you could spend time with your Riley. I hope the coming year is kinder to you. Penny

Silka, I am happy that you received a job offer. From your posts, it is obvious that you are intelligent and caring. Even in this economy, you can't keep a quality person like yourself from good work. As for the timing of things....I have thought the same thing about Macy. She made it through Xmas (and the family portrait) before getting diagnosed. She made it home for a few weeks when the vet didn't think she could so I could say bye over a few weeks, not days. Next week my wife goes back to work from maternity leave and we were struggling with the plan of who would take care of Macy while we were at work. Lastly, before she passed on her own, the vet said there "may" be something else we could do but it would require expensive surgery and a very prolonged stay in the vet hospital. Macy made that decision for me and I can't thank her enough for that because I don't know what I would have done to be honest. It would have been outrageously expensive with a low chance of success so in that sense, I believe she helped me. I am so happy that you got to spend time with Riley as I am happy my wife/myself got to spend time with Macy. Dogs have huge hearts....and coincidence or not the timing is a sign of their affection back. Thank you for the good news Silka and I hope your new position works out.

After listening to the many posts about time spent with our babies before they passed I have to say that I feel our lives our mapped out by someone other than ourselves who knew the need we had to have time with our babies before letting go. I too have been off work since Oct 30 due to a work related injury and it was a blessing to have the time with Coco that I did. I think it makes it easier knowing she had so much one on one time with her family before she left. Darren, I wish your wife the best of luck on her return to work and Silka as I said before the best of luck in your new postion..Kelly

Dear Silka, That is fantastic news about the new job! Congratulations, I hope it works out for you. I am sure Bonnie will understand and get used to the new routine with you being out of the house. I am sure she's is spoilt with lots of love - and a few extra treats should be able to win her over! I am sure Riley is watching over you, darling boy. Samantha.

Silka - I'm so happy that you're starting back to work - It will keep you busy and allow your heart to heal alittle. Your baby at home will be so happy to greet you when you get home and each day will get alittle easier to bear. Riley is still looking out for your.
