This makes no sense to me does it to you? Since we dont know if it was the heartgard plus that triggered Wylies relapse The vet wanted o use interceptor. Wylie is 56#, I forgot to ask my vet about being worried on dosing for 50-100# and called back, the vet tech said oh no, we had a dog who was #102 and used the 50-100# and got heartworm, sounds kind of fishy to me a 2# difference would not work. My thought is the drug companies pad this # Like I think they do with the amount of days because when we put Wylie back on Heartgard, my vet said it was okay at 40 days. And other people have posted here their vets let them extend the days. So I said want him to confirm that she has to be on the 50-100# Another vet tech called back and said heres what my vet is saying, use Interceptor, the 25-50# now 2 weeks later dose her with the 50-100#. So isnt she getting double nuked? because she will still have the 25-50# in her system? Thanks Laurie

Laurie, From every thing I have learned and read, it sounds like Interceptor given every 45 days is enough protection. That is what CSU advised, as well as my vet, as well as Dr. Dodds I believe. Also, we were told that it could also be split into a morning dose then an evening dose to help monitor for a reaction. I would say that the dosage your vet is suggesting sounds a little wacky, but hey, I'm no vet nor expert. Good luck, we haven't yet decided what to do ourselves...I hate heartworm season. melissa and tiggs

I picked up the meds last night and the vet tech was also confused on the instructions, I gave Wylie the 20-50# and when my vet gets back next week I will clarify what he was trying to do. Patrice, thanks for that link, I am in the 6-25 case per clinic color, interesting it doesnt say and from why I read the heartworm can only mature at 5+ days over I think its 60 degrees. Thats why many people dont do year round heartworm. And I am very interested in the cat info since I have an indoor/ourdoor cat, will have to check up on that Laurie

Find it very interesting (but not suprising) that Merial and Pfiser (as well as other pharmaceuticals) are designated as 'platinum sponsors' of the AHS. Means they are subsidizing the site and no doubt contribute to the material printed touting safety measures that probably are false. Merial is the same pharmaceutical company who produces Frontline made of the toxic pesticide substance fipronil that almost killed my dog. Sorry, but I wouldn't believe anything written on that site if they are the sponsors. Jan
