Has anybody had experience with cooling vests? I have used a cooling bandanna (for me AND the dog!) Now somebody told me about cooling vests. Since Kahlu is always hot I thought that would be comfi for him. Best wishes to all of you Brigitte & Kahlu

Brigitte, I have not heard about the vests but my Ren has the same problem of being overheated all the time. When Ren goes outside with me, she lays on a water soaked towel (wrung out so it's not dripping wet). She really seems to relish the cooling effect. I wish I could find one of those cooling bandanas in a small Chihuahua size! Sue & Ren

Charlie is hot all the time too. Where can I find the cooling bandana?

Carol, I got mine as a joke present when I turned 50. It works great when you have hot flashes! It has something inside that turns to a cool gel when i soak it in water for a few minutes. I think they could be easily made, if you know what that substance is and can sew. Nothing fancy just sreaight seams. I googled dog cooling vests and there are different models available. Some that are used for the dogs with the US military in Irak. I just wanted to see if anybody has had any experience with them. The bandanna is ok for a small dog, for a big dog it is not quite enough. Cheers, Brigitte & Kahlu

You could always wet down the front of the chest. I saw the dog whisperer do it before and he clained it kept them cool. Johnny & Tessy

You might want to consider getting a "canine cooler" dog bed. It's like a water bed for dogs. We had one for Meisha and it was great. I would post a link but there are so many places one can buy it from so just google Canine cooler and read about it.

I will look for the bandanna at a craft sale or farmers market here. Thanks for the info!

We have used chamois that you find in the atomotive section. You soak them in ice water & lay them on the dogs back to keep them cool. The ones sold at dog shows have a velcro strip attaced so they can be worn as a cape type of thing. My boys also use them for soccer when they start feeling overheated, they drape one across the back of their neck or over their head. Works like a charm. They could be cut to whatever size is needed.

This vest just arrived in the mail today: http://www.gear4dogs.com/ruffwear-swamp-cooler Kahlu likes it ok, time will tell if it is worth the money. I like Ann's idea of the chamois, it might not be as stylish, but it is a lot cheaper! Best wishes, Brigitte & a chillin Kahlu
