I posted this in the general link, but am afraid not many will see it now. Most of you may remember I lost my sweet Miracle to AIHA last August. Now I've lost my 13 year old due to a bacterial infection. I'm wondering if it could also be AIHA and I'm in another panic over losing my baby. Here's what I posted earlier: http://www.vetnet.co.uk/cgi-bin/gen5?runprog=vetnetbbs&mode=thread&access=&subject=200&source=T&thread=2009031301254116411

Ramona, I am so sorry that you have had to deal with 2 losses so close together. Hopefully the lab results will shed some clues as to what happened. When we had to let our girl Salome go while fighting the AIHA ahe had developed both pancreatitis and vasculitis she did have what I would called a dark tea colored fluid pour out of her nose after the shot. I don't know if that was similar to what you were seeing or not. I asked her attending ER vet (that wasn't on call at the time) what it was but she didn't know. Please don't beat yourself up over what happened the last few days and try to remember what a loving home you gave her for so many years. Penny

Ramona, I am so sorry to read what you have been through and the loss of your baby so suddenly. I wish I could tell you exactly what this was. I don't have access to all of the tests your vet did so it's tough to say what they meant by bacteria. It's possible that bacteria can cause a very sudden illness like this. I am also wondering if it wasn't something called Bartonellosis. It's not a typical tick disease but more like a bacteria. Here is a simple to read explanation of what it is: http://ww.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=2+1556&aid=293 I can honestly say that your vets might miss something like this without advanced knowledge of testing for it. If it isn't common in your area, they might not think of it. If they do a necropsy they might just find something that will ease your mind. I feel that you did everything in your power to save her life. please accept my deepest condolences patrice
