Pam, there is a recent thread on Rabies, go down a few and read that, its got some great info in it. As for Wylie and rabies, she is not due until May and I will get it done, we live in an area of wild animals and she actually got attacked by a pack of coyotes a few years ago, If her rabies had not been up to date, they probably would have put her down something I just can't think of what could happen. As for heartworm, Wylie is on Interceptor now, we think her relapse was caused by Heartgard Plus, which has a lot more ingredients than the interceptor, A lot of peopl here use just plain Heartgard, but I dont have access to that Laurie

Studies have shown efficacy of a 45 day treatment cycle. But this is not forgiving of missed doses! Follow this up with bi-yearly SNAP 4DX tests for heartworm to insure these doses are effective. I use Interceptor at this dose for both dogs and have had no problems. My breeder has always advised owners to avoid using their dogs as the delivery source for killing fleas. Work hard to eliminate fleas from the environment first before resorting to applied or ingested flea preventatives if at all possible. Look for IGR insect growth regulators on the packaging. These have come under more scrutiny by regulators and I avoid them. In general fleas do not carry any deadly diseases, but cause allergies etc. If you live where they are a serious problem, follow your vet's advice for control. my best patrice

Please keep this spring, 2009 EPA Bulletin close by and refer to it when deciding to give flea control preventives to your pet. http://www.epa.gov/pesticides/health/flea-tick-control.html The OP Office of the EPA will be issuing an update in Feb. 2010. Several of we consumer advocates have been in close touch with the OPP Project Managers working on this project. We are hoping that sanctions will be issued to (pharmaceutical) manufacturers who permit dangerous pesticide neurotoxins to be sold to the public. Be very cautious the product choice you use on your pet. Veterinarians are often not fuly learned in the products' ingredients. You must research/decide yourself. Perhaps if I would have done a better job researching, my pet would not have had to go through 4 blood transfusions and 3 years of recovery due to a well known (Frontline) flea control product. Jan
