Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Hayfever time for Joey

Hi,
Does anyone have any info on dog allergies?Joey is on Piriton 3mgs daily which hasn't been reduced as when we tried he started to sneeze.Overnight he has developed a runny nose which at present is clear fluid.Last year when this was first diagnosed he had to have surgery to clean his nose out as it got infected.I hoover everyday and wash the floors and his bed in hot water only so as to not cause any problems also try to keep him out of long grass. He actually has been diagnosed with hayfever and this develops at the same time as my husbands!I am really scared that he will have to have a GA as this could kick off his anaemia again.Has anyone else had this happen?

Hi Corrine,

Our little boy, Henri, has allergies. We noticed them after we weaned him off prednisone. We did allergy testing (serum only in an IMHA dog) and found out he is allergic to all types of weeds and grasses. Additionally, he is allergic to birch trees. He presented with a runny nose, constant sneezing, and some itchiness. He was miserable for about 1-month and then it seemed to ease up. We gave him Benedryl, which I am not sure how much that helped.....but the sneezing, runny nose eventually stopped. There is some antihistamine/low prednisone, allergy medication...I can't remember the name...but Dr Dodds suggested it, if we couldn't get the allergies undercontrol with Benedryl. We, also, bathed Henri 2x/week with KetaChlor to get the allergens off him. How does Joey's skin look?

Furhugs,
Ella
