Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Happy visit to the vet w/ Red

We took Red to the vet yesterday for his first visit there. Our appointment was with a vet other than the one who was helping us with Riley's IMHA, but on our way out we saw Doc in the lobby. He was overjoyed to meet Red and that we had adopted again. We had had so many sad visits there in the last few months but that moment eased a lot of the sadness that that place has held for us. Kind of like hitting the reset button. :)

Red was his usual charming self and won the hearts of everyone there - it's kind of crazy how people are drawn to him like a magnet! People were more reserved around Riley, I think because he was black and had a "tough" look about him...so this is different for us, but good.

Jennifer:

I'm glad to hear that a place once so associated with sadness can now be associated with happiness again. Red does sound like a charmer and we are thrilled for you. May you enjoy many happy years together!

Jennifer,
I am glad that you are able to begin to move forward in places that have brought you so much grief. I know how hard that can be. Red is so lucky to have been taken in by such a caring family.

Dear Jennifer, I second what Penny has said - Red is indeed one lucky dog - now I know where that saying comes from "you lucky dog you!" :)

Best wishes to all of you.

Thumbs up here also! It's got to be a huge sigh of relief to have this done and to find out all is well.
Give Red some hugs for me.

Well, I guess we can never have a vet visit where everything is perfectly A-OK...Red has actually started having some allergy issues (itchy skin) but it's a walk in the park compared to IMHA! And he's not as bad as a lot of other dogs with allergies; he's not itching himself raw or anything. We're still trying to determine whether it's environmental or food allergies. We are trying Benadryl and a change in diet and keeping our paws crossed that one of those things works. I'm just thanking dog everytime he smiles and I get a glimpse of his bubblegum pink gums.
