Wylies PCV was up from 38 to 42! Yahoo. Its hard to celebrate though when so many here are suffering but I want to out the good news because as many say there is hope!. Also she has been off denosyl for a month now and she has gained 7# and all of her hair has grown back! For those who have missed my earlier posts Wylie was a rare case that had a bad reaction to Denosyl. The other thing that makes me wonder was the Denosyl keeping her PCV down. Since Wylie creeped up to 38 after her splenectomy and had been holding there we were were very excited. So is this just a coincedence what her PCV jumped after being off Denosyl? Food for thought. My vet has been pretty fantastic except for a few bumps in the road since Wylies diagnosis in April. He thinks she is cured, I say in remission since we still dont know the cause. I will still continue to look at her gums daily and look for any change This board is Awesome! Laurie

Laurie, Congratulations on Wylie's good news. I am pretty new to the board (2 weeks) so haven't heard much about splenectomy. How soon after diagnosis did Wylie have to have that. How bad did things have to get before the vet suggested it? Have you heard of this happening often? Is Wylie completely off meds now? Thanks for all your input, it sure helps to see a success story. I will say a prayer that Wylie stays in remission!!! Best of luck to you and Wylie Deb, Grand Rapids MI

I just hope the celebration is a long one! Devb to answer your ?. Wylie was diagnosed a year ago Sept with Leptospirosis so we had been monitering her high liver enyzymes over the months, which finally wnet down, then early in Jan they spike again, she was put on amozicillin and she has a dead tooth so the vet thought this was causing an infection in the liver. Over the next 2 months we talked about taking that tooth out. In April I took her in to confirm lets do it. AN he looke dat her gums and sais she was slightly jaundiced. They did a complete blood panel and her HCT was 40. He said bring her back in a week, I did it dropped to 35. He started doxycyclene and did a pull tick panel. I brought her back 3 days later and she dropped to 33. She was started on Prednizone. SHe was Sp? autoaggulation and tested positve for combs. Her tick panel came back postive mildy for rocky mtn spotted fever. He didnt think that was the cause as she was probably a carrier or had it one point and fought it off. I found this great board and decided I needed a 2nd opinion. I consulted our only internist in town and she said at Wylies age, 11 almost certain cancer and probably the spleen, as this is the case with AIHA in seniors and said to do an ultrasound. She consulted with my vet. My vet scheduled the ultrasound in 10 days and we did a fast wean off prednizone. He found growths in her spleen so it was coming out. Luckily she was the 35% that is not cancerous. The vet did say benighn tumors can bleed out and cause AIHA. Oh she had no disention or anything visially in her spleen. After she was put on a low dose of prednizone and finally weaned off. her last dose was 6/29 hope that helps answer your ? Laurie
