Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Goodbye Doggie Car

I have just returned from Virginia. It is with great sorrow that I share the news that Steve's #18 his precious Meghan was totaled over the weekend. An unfortunate problem with the brakes led to no brakes while doing 130-150 mph. The car rolled several times but fortunately the driver was o.k. Not so the car.
I know Steve will have to grieve as if he has lost his dear Tasha once more but I hope he knows how much all of us appreciate all his efforts this racing season to raise awareness of this terrible disease that has brought us all together. I am sure for everyone who had their dog riding on one of his cars felt as I did that our dear sweet dogs were being remembered for their hard fought battles. It was a great pleasure to meet Steve and his crew, his Vet and the fantastic people from Morris Animal Foundation. I just wish there had been a happier conclusion to the day. I hope all of you will join with me to thank Steve for all he has done and will continue to do in the hopes that someday other peoples dogs will not be lost.
I have a number of pictures that I took before the race and I will post the names of the dogs so if anyone wants a copy of the decal I will get if off to you.

I am relieved the driver is ok, but distraught for STeve and the loss of our doggie mascot. I was so proud to have Brandy's paw displayed for such a worthy cause....one small way to fight this awful disease.

God Bless to Steve and his crew.

Penny -- I am glad that the driver was okay, but this is such sad news about our beautiful Car #18. I can only imagine Steve's feelings right now, since that car represented a lot for all of us, but even more to him, his family, and Marcus Motorsports.

I am so grateful for the effort that Steve and MM put into fighting IMHA. I wish I had gotten down to VIR, since it's just a few hours away.

I am glad you got to enjoy the experience of meeting Steve, seeing that beautiful car, and meeting the MAF people.

Steve,

As you have already shown us...the race still roars on even if the vehicle must transform. It is hard not just to get detoured by the crashes...but as long as there are still racers and the track to conquer we must don our helmets again and keep burning up the track...for those racing with us in our hearts...and for those who might yet come to stand at the starting gate...Mutt Strutters all!

Ladies and gentlemen...of all varieties...please re-start your engines! We still have a race to win!

Thank you, Steve and your whole crew.

Steve put in the wrong link for the photos. Below is the correct link. Photos 76-91 are of the crash.

I'm sure all of us here will agree with Cheryl's encouraging words! That's a life lesson especially for many of us here, those who are still fighting through AIHA and those who had to gather the courage to give back our little ones to the Maker - we have all FALLEN, then GOT UP, and repeated over again. This crash is painful but we must get up and keep going for our precious furry friends!

Steve, your act of generosity has brought courage and hope to many here. Keep up the good work! Only God can repay you.

From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU to you and your crew.

After seeing the photos of the crash of Steve's car #18 it became obvious to me that the hearts and spirits of the dogs who's names are on the bones and paws on the car all pulled together and protected the driver Andrew Davis, it is a miracle he was able to walk away.

If I had to pick a positive thing about Ginger being diagnosed with AIHA it would have to be following Steve and his team over the last few months and my family becoming race fans. Steve has done an awesome job Steve in raising money and and awareness for AIHA. I know Tasha is so very proud of what you have accomplished in her honor.

We are looking foward to following your races next year.

With Gratitude,
Cheryl & Ginger
