Like so many others, Cody will NOT be vaccinated again. And our vet is in complete agreement. However, I was a little worried about dealing with the City since they require yearly rabies ( even tho it's a 3 yr vaccine..... go figure !!) Anyway, I got their letter stating that Cody was due for his rabies vax and that if his registration is not in within 45 days, there would be a fine. I debated whether I should just ignore it and pretend Cody didn't exist ( I mean really..... how many 1000's of dogs are there in a city the size of Dallas). However, I sent the registration back with my check (figured a bribe couldn't hurt...lol) and a letter from my vet stating that Cody was not a candidate for vaccination due to autoimmune issues. That was all that was said. Anyway, I received his dog tag in the mail...no hassle. I'm hoping that the petition we had before the State Health Dept has had a trickle down effect and that Counties and Cities in Texas are reevaluating their unforgiving mandates!

Congratulations, Betty! My state representative is a veterinarian, so I'm working with him to amend the Utah rabies statute to exempt dogs who've had AI/IHMA. Your experience in Dallas will help. Sandy & Shadow

Just FYI for those of you who live in Florida --- This exemption has been in effect in this state for atleast the last 5 years since April was first diagnosed. Even our grooming salons require proof of vaccination before allowing an appt. to be made. I just simply show my letter from the vet, and have never had a problem.
