Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Good News for Matilda

I don't know the numbers yet, as my vet just called. This is the 3rd week for Matilda's prednisone to be reduced (from 10mg/day to 5 mg/day) and her blood work came back "COMPLETELY NORMAL" My vet said that even her liver values are normal now - and I suspect he was so excited which is why he called me rather than wait to fax the report to me.

Thank you everyone for the support and advice you have given. I know the first few weeks after Matilda's diagnosis I was almost frozen in fear. This forum, and all of you and your experiences and stories gave me the courage to face this. I am still not totally relaxed, but days like this make it so much easier.

thanks - and good thoughts to all of you and yours!

Jeanne,

Congrats! This is great news! Your Matilda and my Boogie started on pred reduction right around the same time. I got good news on Friday. Boogie's count on Friday was 41! She is now on 2.5 mgs pred every other day. She's still on other meds, but she feels so much better with the decrease in pred.

I'm so very happy for you and Matilda. I know how excited you are. I'm there too.

Good news for you both Jeanne and Sue! There is indeed hope that this terrible disease can be licked!

Yeah Boogie! Sue, I think Boogie started on the decrease a little sooner (maybe a week) ahead of Matilda. Her vet has her scheduled for one more week of 5 mg daily, then we reduce to 5mg prednisone every other day. I guess each vet has their way of doing it. I look forward to hearing about Boogie's next blood work - I still haven't gotten the fax from the vet yet on Matilda's, so I don't know her numbers - just that everything was normal.

Maybe Boogie & Matilda will have to have a 1 year anniversary party next year!

Jeanne & Matilda,

Yes, a one year anniversary party would be great. Boogie's diagnosis date was March 4th. It was a very tough couple of months, but so far so good since April 24th - her fourth transfusion.
