Just wanted to share the good news for Kola, our 3 year old standard poodle. He was diagnosed with idiopathic (no identified cause) AIHA almost exactly 3 months ago, and spent several days in the veterinary hospital with a PCV that dropped into the teens and 2 blood transfusions. He is currently on Azathioprine 50 mg every other day and Prednisone 10 mg/day (tapering down slowly). He has since come off other meds from the hospital including blood pressure, and aspirin. Today at his appt, his PCV was up to 40 (after holding steady at mid 30's for the past month and a half). I know relapse is always a possibility, but given that we thought we would lose him just a few months ago we are so appreciative. I really hope that others might read this and feel some hope if you're just getting this scary diagnosis.

Thank you for sharing Leslie! Since we also have a (almost) 3 year old Standard Poodle and he was diagnosed 6 weeks ago, that gives me lots of hope! Brigitte and Kahlu

Hi Brigitte, Yes, I remember your warm message from my first post, and that you have Kahlu, a male standard poodle of the same age. Funny their names are so similar too! I look forward to hearing about Kahlu's progress, and wish him and you the best in his recovery. -Leslie
