Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Give Rosie a high five!!!

Just got back from another PCV test went from 20 to 38!!! Rosie is climbing her way back to normal range. Dr. is keeping her on current dose. Its 6 weeks at this high dose, hope the side effects dont get her? So far all i see is the drinking and eating part. What else should I keep an eye out for? Either way Rosie is a fighter for sure.

Hi Pam and Rosie
That's fantastic news!!!! I have Ginger on Milk Thistle to help protect her liver since is on the pred as a maintenance drug and will continue to stay on it, not sure if Rosie is on that too.

A BIG paws up from Ginger !!!!

Pam,
GREAT news! I agree with Cheryl about the Milk Thistle. Busters liver numbers were always very high. The Milk Thistle really seemed to do the trick. Last blood work his liver numbers were very close to normal.
I'll be praying that Rosie stays on her Rosie path to good health.

Pam,
Whoo-hoo what a jump! You must be thrilled. It is always a worry about side effects but try to enjoy the good parts too.

Dear Pam,

You also need to keep an eye on her liver values.
If they are high, then it might be good to add Milk Thistle or Denmarin to help protect the liver. This is one of the more serious side effects.
This should resolve as medication decreases.

She held her own at 38 PCV..so we are beginning the reduction in pred again.. lets hope this time we figure out where its best to stop her. so she doesnt relapse again
