Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Ginger update

It has now been 7 months since Ginger was diagnosed with AIHA and I just wanted to give you an update. Ginger is doing absolutely wonderful! She is on 1/2 Imruan EOD and probably will be on some type of maintenance dosage for the rest of her life, as she has chronic AIHA and had been missed diagnosed for over a 1 1/2 year and had relapses every 3 or 4 months, she was always diagnosed with UTI due to the biliruban in her urine and general fatigue and put on antibiotics. Since she has been correctly diagnosed and given the correct medicine she has not had a relapse in the last 7 months. Ginger never really crashed but her PCV was as low as 20. Her last vet visit her PCV was up to 45 and she now goes back for a check up once every 6 weeks and of course I do still check those gums.
I am not sure we would have made it without the tremendous about of information and support from this website and we just wanted to thank you all! We will keep you and your precious fur babies in our thoughts and prayers.

Cheryl,
Yippee for Ginger! It is sad that so many Vets still don't catch the AIHA. Hopefully with all of us spreading the word they will listen.

Cheryl,

That is wonderful news for you and Ginger!!! This disease does get so frustrating and yes this board has helped me so much I cannot even begin to say. When I speak with our vet and internist now at least I know what I am talking about as well as them, but it does take time for that. So glad you were able to finally get a correct diagnosis and that Ginger is moving up in a very positive way! Keep up the good work!
